CLEANERS - TWO POSITIONS - SOMERVILLE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Working hours:

10 hours per week X 2

Monday to Friday

Position 1: 6:00am – 8:00am

Position 2: 3:30pm – 5:30pm

Full year contracts

The post holder is required to work both term and non-term time.   

Job Purpose

 To undertake cleaning duties to maintain a high standard of cleanliness within the school, as directed.

 Key Tasks 

  • Undertaking cleaning of allocated areas in line with specified standards and as directed. Includes cleaning, washing, sweeping, vacuum cleaning, emptying of litter bins, polishing and dusting of the designated areas (which will include toilets and shower areas) and fixtures and fittings, using where appropriate, powered equipment.
  • Operate/use domestic and industrial cleaning equipment and materials, following appropriate training where necessary and store allocated equipment and materials safely and securely.
  • Perform duties in line with health and safety regulations (COSHH) and take action where hazards are identified, report serious hazards to line manager immediately
  • To perform other duties considered reasonable, that are commensurate with the grading and designation of the post.
  • To carry out key holder duties in the morning.
  • Attend any training courses that are deemed appropriate in aiding the development of the service.
  • To ensure that all work areas are secure upon completion of cleaning and all lights are switched off prior the completion of the shift. 
  • Responsible along with all members of the school for the safeguarding and welfare of pupils

Individuals in this role may also undertake the following:

Undertake specialised cleaning programmes during school closures or other designated periods.

Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified. Employees will be expected to comply with any reasonable instruction from the Headteacher to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.

CATERING MANAGER - SOMERVILLE PRIMARY SCHOOL

  • 30 hours (We are flexible and open to increasing these hours for the right person)
  • Band F
  • 39 weeks per year
  • 8am-2pm
  • Closing date: Thursday 17th September 2026 - 12pm
  • Start date: 1st October 2026

The Governors of Somerville Federation would like to appoint a Catering Manager from 1st October 2026 or as soon as possible after this date. This is a permanent role following a successful probationary period.

We are looking for a highly motivated person with strong organisational and people skills to manage a busy school catering facility. Somerville Primary has invested heavily in a good facility to produce and serve fresh, wholesome, and exciting food for our pupils.

As a team leader with motivational flair, you will be a ‘Hands On’ leader and have very good organisational skills to enable you and your team to provide a fresh, child friendly lunch service. You will complete the daily production requirements and lead the team in assisting with preparation and service of the lunch.  A commitment to maintaining high standards of service, food quality and hygiene is essential.

Ideally you should have 3 years’ supervisory experience within a catering environment and hold City & Guilds, HND, NEBSS or similar qualification in catering.
