In Foundation Stage 2, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. This framework covers 7 areas of learning and development which are listed below. Each area of learning has an Early Learning Goal which is the standard that a child is expected to reach by the end of the summer term in Reception.
The 3 prime areas:
- communication and language
- physical development
- personal, social and emotional development
The 4 specific areas:
- literacy
- maths
- understanding the world
- expressive arts and design
In Foundation Stage 2 (F2) our aim is to provide our children with a broad and balanced curriculum which is filled with fun and exciting learning opportunities which will challenge our pupils, encourage their curiosity and inspire their play. The value of play in early years is very high. Children learn best when they are having fun! Our F2 team is highly skilled in observing our children’s interests, facilitating their play and extending their learning through a balance of child initiated and adult led activities.
Some key information for the start of the year:
- Children need to bring a water bottle into school every day. They can be left in school until Friday.
- Please label all items of clothing.
Reading
To start the year the children will have a 'reading for pleasure book' that can be enjoyed as a story time with family at home. The children can bring this into school when the book needs changing.
After Christmas, some children might start to bring reading books home. Please discuss any vocabulary that they are not sure of and ask them questions about the story.
Links to phonics videos will be sent home on Tapestry to help support your child to work further on the letters at home. These will be sent weekly and will match the sounds they have learnt in school.
PE
PE will be on a Tuesday. Please make sure children wear the correct kit. Children come to school dressed in their PE kits for the whole school day.
PE Kit — Plain white t shirt, with or without collar, with or without logo. Navy, black, grey leggings or jogging bottoms. Navy sweatshirt, with or without logo. A pair of sensible trainers without a black sole.
