2 Year Old Room (Caterpillars) 2024 - 2025

Our 2 year old children learn and play in our Caterpillar room. We offer morning or afternoon sessions for our children. Morning sessions are 9.00- 12.00 and afternoon sessions are 12.30 - 3.30.

Throughout their session, children will have the opportunity to access high quality learning opportunities, indoors and outside. Regular features of provision are stories, rhymes and 'Attention Bucket' activities. Within our continuous provision, children have free access to carefully planned provision, including:

• Easels for early mark making – with chalks, paints, crayons and pens
• A creative area – with access to recycled materials, glue and collage materials
• Water play
• Sand play
• Playdough
• Cosy corner 
• Role play
• Small world
• Construction
• Sensory area 

Children are offered snack during their session, with a focus on healthy eating and developing good eating practices. Healthy snacks include fruit, vegetables and a drink of milk or water.

Close to the classroom there are child sized toilets where children are encouraged to be independent. There is a dedicated changing area for children wearing nappies. When children are ready to toilet train, staff will work with families, offering children praise and encouragement, supporting them to succeed. Staff model good hand washing techniques and encourage children to follow their lead. 

Our experienced staff team respond to children’s interests and carefully plan activities to ensure that children make progress across all the areas of learning. Every child has an identified Key Person, who will help them feel happy and secure in class, responding to the child’s individual needs. The Key Person will also form strong links with the child’s family, working collaboratively to support each child’s progress.

There is a dedicated and secure outdoor environment where children can play. We have extensive grounds, including a Forest School and Orchard area which are accessed throughout the school year.
