Mr Hardman retiring

It is time to say goodbye on Friday the 18th of June to our caretaker, Mr Hardman. He has
taken the decision to retire after many years at Somerville. He was going to retire earlier but
felt a responsibility to see our school safely through the COVID crisis, for which we sincerely
thank him.
Mr Hardman has not only been the caretaker of this school but also a friend to many and in all
circumstances a true gentleman.
In all the years Mr Hardman has been at Somerville he has never said no to anything, nothing
has been too much trouble for him. He has gone above and beyond what is expected of a
school caretaker. All three headteachers he has worked under at Somerville would
wholeheartedly agree.
He has been up at the break of dawn in cold icy, snowy winters making sure our site has been
safe for children, parents and staff. He has built props for all of our school plays and Year 6
leavers discos, ranging from pirate ships to 60s inspired cars. His skill and craftsmanship in
woodwork was plain to see. He has kept the school looking fresh and bright and I don’t think
we have a single piece of furniture that has not been assembled by him! We honestly feel that
since Mr Hardman first started with us that he has gone above and beyond for Somerville and
we truly appreciate that.
We would like to wish Mr Hardman a very peaceful and relaxing retirement.
Staff are organising their own gift and farewell, however, we do know many parents and carers
appreciate his work as much as we do. If you feel you would like to donate to a collection we
are happy to organise this on behalf of parents and carers. Please hand any donations to the
school office by Tuesday 15th June if you wish to do so.
