Update 10th July 2020

 10th July 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

Earlier today I sent you the new class structure for the Primary School and information about the website page; Returning to Somerville 2020, which has been set up yesterday and contains plans about returning to school in September 2020. This will be added to with the Nursery classroom set up and the Federation risk assessment over the coming weeks and as more information becomes available.

For those children who are in the childcare or have managed to be accommodated in one of the teaching bubbles for 2 year olds, F1, F2, Year 1 and Year 6 children; a reminder that both schools will close to children on Friday 17th July 2020 and we will reopen to the ALL children on Wednesday 2nd September 2020.

It feels extremely strange as we approach the last week of the school academic year to have less than 200 of our children in school each day. We are so looking forward to seeing you all on the 2nd September 2020 to hear what you have all been doing and introduce you to your new classes. It won’t be long now!

Reports and next year’s class.

Today you should have received your child’s report from the Primary School and arrangements are in place to collect learning journals from the Nursery School. If you have not received your child’s report by email today it may be that we do not have your email address and the report has been placed in the post. If you do not receive the report early next week please get in touch and we will arrange another copy to be sent to you.

Childcare provision.

Again and for the last time we have managed to accommodate all those children who have requested a place for the week of 13th July 2020. For those who have used the childcare provision over the last few months we hope you, your family and our community have benefited from your child attending the provision. I wish to thank you for your role as a key worker and the staff at Somerville for the role they have played since the end of March. Putting themselves and their families in harm's way as key workers when other adults were being told to work from home. You have all played your part in reducing the impact of this pandemic in our country and for this I thank you.

Working from home.

Online learning continues to be available on the working from home page on our school website. Or utilise the extremely well resourced Oak National Academy website https://www.thenational.academy/ . Don’t forget that you can contact your child’s year group teachers by email, for example: year1@somerville.wirral.sch.uk Foundation 2 is F2year@somerville.wirral.sch.uk  this is the only one that differs slightly in format.

Free School Meal Vouchers.

We have now ordered next week’s £15 voucher and your £90 voucher for the Summer Holiday which you should receive in the next few days. Please remember that if you have any difficulty accessing either of these vouchers or ones from previous weeks you must contact us before the end of the week. Please do not leave it till the last day. We will then be happy to support you in getting the voucher. Please remember all vouchers will expire in 4 weeks after delivery and therefore it is important that we get the vouchers to you before we finish for the Summer. After 17th July 2020 the office will be closed emails will not be responded to and it will be too late to reclaim your vouchers in September.

OTIS the Owl Out of School Club.

We have now started taking applications for the out of school club for September. Breakfast club will start at 8.00am until school begins when the children are taken to their class, last entry for breakfast club is at 8.30am. After school club will start at the end of the school day until 5.45pm. The cost is £2 for breakfast club and £8 for after school club. Breakfast club includes a selection of toast, cereal and a drink. After school club includes a light snack and a drink. Dependent on numbers breakfast club will operate out of the school hall and after school club will operate out of Blue Bird Room. See the school website for OTIS the Owl Club policies.

If your child has benefited from the club this year they will have a priority place but please still complete the form so we know to expect them. If your child will be new to the club there is a £10 registration fee and you will need to send this to the school office once you have filled in the form to secure their place. Remember we have limited places, if you do not apply for a place or leave it till September you may miss out! Please click on this link if you would like to apply for a place in OTIS the Owl Club.

Contacting the school.

Office staff continue to work in the school office to answer the telephone and respond to or forward emails. Please do not visit the school office unless you have a prior appointment. Only in exceptional circumstances should you visit the school office and with a prior appointment. Emails can be sent to the schooloffice@somerville.wirral.sch.uk and the school office number is 0151 638 5074

Thank you for your very kind words, from the vast majority of our parents and carers, over the last few days and weeks. Your appreciation of our staff and the work we have been doing goes a long way in these difficult times. Comments you have made in passing, on email, letter and via social media are treasured by the staff as we try to do our best and what is right for the children, families and staff members of Somerville under difficult and controlled circumstances. We are grateful to you for your understanding and support during this pandemic.

Please continue to follow the guidance in your own families to ensure that the virus continues to fall in our local community and to prevent any local lockdown.

Stay safe everyone!
